Ochoa, who last week won in her native Mexico, started nicely with two birdies in her first three holes, including a seven-footer at the third. She did not record another birdie on the front nine and made the turn at two-under-par 34.

 

Ochoa birdied the 10th, then parred No. 11. At the 12th, Ochoa two-putted from close to 50 feet for a birdie, which got her to four-under par and tied for the lead at the time.

 

She parred out to stay in a tie for the lead.

 

The Swede broke into red figures with a three-foot birdie putt at the seventh. At the par-three eighth, Sorenstam drained a birdie putt from a similar length as the hole before and made the turn at minus-two.

 

For the first time in five years, Sorenstam is not a shoe-in to win Player of the Year honors, although a sixth title in this event would go a long way to closing the gap between herself and Ochoa.

He stands at 14-under-par 129 and is two ahead of the field. The second round was suspended due to darkness after a rain delay during the round knocked the schedule back. The players will return at 10:16 a.m. (et) Saturday to complete the second round with the third round scheduled to begin 90 minutes later.

 

The par-72 Summerlin Course and the par-71 TPC at Canyons were used for the first two rounds before the TPC at Summerlin takes over on the weekend.

 

Points flew out of the gate with a 26-foot birdie putt at the second and an eight-foot eagle putt at No. 3. He hit his approach stiff at the seventh and tapped in the short birdie putt.

 

He continued his strong play on the second nine as he parred his first three holes on the back side. At the par-five 13th, Points tapped in a short birdie putt, then sank a six-footer at the 14th to reach 13-under par for the championship.

 

"My iron game has been pretty solid," said Points, who is a three-time winner on the Nationwide Tour. "These courses set up well for me, they're really appealing to my eye and there are a lot of opportunities if you can hit a good shot."

 

"If I was 124th on the money list, I'd be feeling pretty pressured to keep my card," admitted Points. "I have a long way to go before I have it. It's much more important for me to look at it as I'm having fun."

 

What has been fun for Points is his play of late. He started the season making only five cuts in 21 starts with a tie for 10th at The Honda Classic. In his last five tournaments, Points has made the cut in all five and tied for 15th at the Texas Open.

 

Bo Van Pelt (64), Bill Haas (65), Bubba Watson (66), first-round co-leader Bob Tway (70), Duffy Waldorf (68) and defending champion Wes Short, Jr. (65) share ninth at minus-10.
